RECORDING SAMPLES

June 7 Concert Samples – I Hear America Singing

How to adjust the speed of the playback on YouTube videos:

Some of the songs are pretty fast. If you are listening to one of the YouTube videos and want to slow down a passage, do you know how to do it?

  • Usually somewhere on the page is the gear symbol, which is the icon normally used to indicate settings.
  • Click on the gear icon
  • You will get some choices
  • Click on “speed”
  • You will see a slider
  • Sliding left slows down the recording speed but does not distort the sound
  • You can speed it up by sliding right.

The setting will stay where you put it so long as you are on that page.  It will revert to normal when you close the page. You can change the speed at any time; just pause the video, change the speed and resume the video.

Two choices:

1. This one is a choir practice version. It’s all on keyboard—no voices.  First it plays accompaniment only; 2:04 soprano begins; 4:06 alto begins; 6:20 tenor begins; 8:16 bass begins

2. This version is all voices—Atlanta Master Chorale

  • Hover over this link
  • Click on the down arrow that appears to the right of the link
  • Click on “Open link”
  • Scroll down on that page to list of choices—go to the second SATB choice (the first one is SSA, even though it says SATB)
  • Click on “Score/Audio”
  • Above the image of the cover will be a play bar—click on the red, right-facing arrow to play

To access this recording:

  • Double click on the link
  • Scroll down to the first offering: SATBB Octavo
  • Move your cursor to the right and click on the icon that says “video”
  • Click the red triangle.

There are other YouTube videos of this, including the Angel City Chorale with a bigger orchestra. I chose this one because the voices are clearer than in the other videos. You can try other ones to see if they are helpful. Some have slightly slower tempos and others are a bit faster.
